Athletic Offerings

Gill St. Bernard’s Athletic program offers three levels of competition, each of which represents a significant commitment of time and effort from participating students. The Upper School fields 18 and 6 teams at the varsity and junior varsity level respectively, across three seasons. In the Middle School, students are able to compete on any of 16 teams. 

Fall Season

  • Boys' Cross Country

    Levels: Varsity, JV, MS

    Summary: Cross country is open to all interested students with no limits to participation. Runners practice and compete on a course approximately three miles long. Dual and tri-meet races are held after school, and special invitational meets and championships are held on weekends. The cross country team consistently competes for the Conference and Prep B Championships.
  • Boys' Soccer

    Summary: The boys' soccer team is a perennial favorite in the Valley Division of the Skyland Conference and ranks in the top 20 teams in the state during most seasons. The team plays approximately 20 games each year and competes for the Conference and Prep B Championships. The program is highly competitive.

    Summary: The girls' soccer team competes at a high level in the Mountain Division of the Skyland Conference. The team plays approximately 20 games a year in addition to daily after school practice. The players are dedicated to their team and the program is very competitive.
  • Girls' Tennis

    Summary: Space on the varsity roster is limited within this very competitive program. The team competes in the Raritan Division of the Skyland Conference and is consistently in the running for the Conference and Prep B Championships, as well as individual titles. The tennis team is steadily ranked among the top 20 teams in the state.

The team plays approximately 20 games a year, and the program is highly competitive; many players have gone on to have successful careers are the college level. The team consistently ranks in the top 20 of the state.
  • Cheerleading

    Summary: Fencing is open to all interested students; there are no limits to participation. The fencing program competes in the Skyland Conference and regularly participates in large invitational tournaments throughout the state.

    Summary: Girls' basketball competes at a high level in the Delaware Division of the Skyland Conference. This extremely driven team plays approximately 20 games a year.
  • Ice Hockey

    Summary: In its early years as a varsity program, the ice hockey teams plays in a challenging and competitive league. The team plays an average of 20 games per season with a chance at the playoffs. Most game take place in the evenings and some are held on weekends. Players supply their own skates and sticks.
  • Indoor Track & Field

    The Skyland Conference does not split into divisions for Indoor Track

    Summary: The indoor track team competes in approximately 10 invitational meets each season, with daily practice and conditioning sessions held after school. The invitational meets may be scheduled on weekends or during weekdays. All participants are welcome.
  • Swimming

    Summary: Swimming is open to all interested students with no limits to participation. Practices are held during the week and on some Saturday mornings. The team competes in the Skyland Conference Individual Championships, Somerset County and Prep B Championships.

Spring Season

    Summary: Baseball competes in the Mountain Division of the Skyland Conference. Last season, the team won the Skyland Conference and the Prep B Championships at Diamond Nation. The members of the team are very committed, and the team participates in pre-season training in Florida over spring break.
  • Boys' Lacrosse

    Summary: After a successful run at the JV level, the program is now in its initial years as a varsity team. Games are held on weekdays and some tournaments are held on Saturdays.

    Summary: The girls’ lacrosse team is in its initial years as a varsity team with a promising future. Games are held on weekdays and some tournaments are held on Saturdays. Students provide their own sticks and goggles.

    Summary: Gill St. Bernard's Golf is a competitive program with a limited Varsity and JV roster. The team participates in pre-season training at Pinehurst, North Carolina. Matches and practices are held after school at local golf courses.
  • Softball

    Summary: Track & Field is open to all interested students with no limits to participation. The track team competes in invitational and Skyland Conference meets during the week on and some weekends. The team consistently contends for the Conference, Somerset and Prep B Championships, and members of the team regularly win individual accolades.
Gill St. Bernard’s is a private, coeducational day school for students age three through grade 12, located in suburban New Jersey. Each of the three school divisions provides a vigorous, meaningful and age-appropriate curriculum, and all students benefit from the environmental learning opportunities that exist on our 208-acre campus.
